Ask-A-Librarian

E-mail reference service that provides quick answers to simple questions. In-depth research questions cannot be adequately answered in this service. We answer questions as quickly as possible. However, questions sent on an evening, weekend, or holiday will be answered on the next business day.

Bibliographic Instruction

The librarians provide Library/Bibliographic Instruction in the library during regular semesters. Sessions are organized by the instructors of regular classes, such as English. These sessions are intended to build library use skills which contribute to college success. To schedule an appointment, or for an individual, personalized tour of the library, call Susan Wilson at (903) 983-8239.

Circulation

Generally, students may checkout up to five items at one time for a two week period. Fines are 25¢ per day per overdue book. Fines for late DVDs are $5 per day. You may renew your books one time, for five days under certain conditions, in person, by telephone: (903)983-8237, or online.

Hold a Book

If a book is checked out and unavailable, you may place a hold for it in the online catalog system. We cannot hold items that are on the shelf. First, locate the item you wish to request. Please verify that it is checked out. Click the "Request" menu button, login with your last name, PIN, and KC ID, and then select "Hold". Enter your KC ID again. When the book returns to the library, it will be held and you will be notified to pick it up within 5 days.

InterLibrary Loan Service

If you can't find an article or book, you may request these through our InterLibrary Loan Service.

Internet Use

Students must comply with the Randolph C. Watson Library Internet Use Policy. Violators of the policy will be barred from using the library computers for a semester.

Microfiche/Microfilm readers

One combination microfiche/microfilm reader/printers is available on the second floor of the library near the Reference Desk. Copies of microfiche/microfilm frames can be made on these machines and are 10¢ per page, (dimes only). The machine is fragile and temperamental. Please handle with care and ask library staff for assistance when needed.

Photocopiers

There is a photocopier in the library for general use located upstairs near the Reference Desk. Photocopies are 10¢ per page for black and white; 25¢ per page for color. All copies are one sided. The photocopier accepts only copy cards, valued at $3 and $5, which can be purchased at the Circulation Desk.

Printing

Printing can be done from the computers located within the Library and the Bone Learning Center Computer Lab. This service is open to all currently enrolled Kilgore College students, faculty, and staff. Visitors may print from the downstairs computers. Items printed must comply with the Library's Acceptable Use Policy. Items that are illegal or unacceptable will not be printed. In the case of illegal items, the campus police will be notified.

Reserves

Instructors place books, articles, and other materials on limited checkout reserve at the Circulation Desk. Students may use items that are on reserve only in the library.

TexShare Card Program

Available to all patrons in good standing at their participating home library.

Circulation Policies

Faculty may check out materials for an entire semester. Items may be renewed between the Fall and Spring semesters. Checked out materials must be returned at the end of the Spring semester. Faculty are not charged fines, but are responsible for lost item fees if materials are not returned to the library.

InterLibrary Loan

Books and periodical articles are available for borrowing from other libraries. Faculty may use the InterLibrary Loan service in their research and study.

Library Advisory Committee & Faculty Liaisons

The Library Advisory Committee meets at least twice a year to make recommendations for library services, coordinate collection development for all disciplines, promote library services, and disseminate information regarding library services. Contact your faculty representative or library liaison if you have questions about library services and/or purchasing requests.

Bibliographic Instruction

Faculty may schedule a time when their students can come to the library and be given library orientation and/or instruction. You may complete a Bibliographic Instruction Request Form.

New Patron Registration

New faculty, adjunct faculty, part-time staff, and full-time staff members are encouraged to register at the library to enable access to the online databases from home/off-campus. Registered users may also check out books and review their library account online.

Purchase Requests

Faculty are encouraged to request items in their discipline for the library. Faculty are a part of the selection process of materials for the library.

Reserve Requests

Faculty may place items on reserve in the library. Reserve is for a limited time. Reserve items may be used in-library only or checked out.

Building Access

Accessible    An automatic door opener is located outside the main entrance to the Library. To exit the building there is an automatic door opener on the Circulation Desk.


The Library has the following equipment available:

  • A computer with a large screen monitor located on the first floor with a height-adjustable table.
  • A Telesensory Systems Inc. enlarger for magnifying written materials that can be used for any printed matter, including bound periodicals. It does not display in color, but it does provide contrast controls to assist varying levels of viewing.

Assistance in learning to use this equipment is available during regular Library hours.

Materials Access

Persons who are unable to retrieve books and other materials from Library shelves may get assistance at the Circulation Desk. An elevator to accommodate wheelchair access to the second floor is also available.
