Brief Narrative Description

Responsible for working in circulation, reference desk and other areas as needed.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Student workers are responsible for checking in/out books, videos, reserve items and other library resources using the circulation module of the library’s automated system. Shelve books, videos and other library property. Workers will shelf-read for accuracy. Answer questions if able; refer questions to library staff if not. Assist library patrons with computers, copier and other library equipment. Help patrons with database usage. Search for missing and overdue materials. Monitor the library to make sure all items are returned to their proper location. Keep chairs and furniture in neat appearance. Sell supplies to patrons and enter money in cash drawer. Make change accurately. Notify staff if supplies are low. Release print jobs and collect money for prints.  Perform cash reconciliations at beginning and end of shift(s).


Follow schedule for arrival and departure times. Complete assignments accurately and quickly. Receive fines, mark paid, write receipt and enter funds in cash drawer.  Maintain confidentiality of personal information for patrons, students and co-workers. Students are expected to keep their work area and the public area clean and neat. Student workers must be flexible regarding schedule. This job description describes the nature and level of typical assignments normally given this position. It is not conclusive and will be changed. Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Student workers must have a high school diploma or GED and be currently or recently enrolled in college courses. They should also have a high level of computer literacy and be able to work independently, yet function cooperatively within a team environment. Worker should be polite even in stressful situations and generally enjoy helping people.   Must have strong work ethic. Must be able to pass a federal background check.

Wages

This position pays $7.25/hr
