Off-Campus Access Troubleshooting

If you have been unsuccessful connecting to library resources, please review these troubleshooting suggestions.


Verify that you are a currently enrolled student, faculty, or staff member. When prompted for a username, password, or PIN enter:

  • username: Use your 9 digit student ID number.
  • password: Use your AccessKC password.

    Note:  If you change your AccessKC password, your KC Library Database Access password will also change.

If you have been able to login but still not able to view library resources (database), please review these troubleshooting suggestions.


Refresh Browser

To refresh your browser, click the refresh refresh button in your browser's toolbar.

Clear Cache/Cookies

Select browser for "How To" instructions for clearing cache/cookies.

  1. Computer
  2. On your computer, open Chrome.
  3. At the top right, click More .
  4. Click More tools > Clear browsing data.
  5. At the top, choose a time range. To delete everything, select All time.
  6. Next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and files," check the boxes.
  7. Click Clear data.

  2. On your Android phone or tablet, open the Chrome app .
  3. At the top right, tap More .
  4. Tap History > Clear browsing data.

  2. On your iPhone or iPad, open the Chrome app .
  3. At the bottom, tap More .
  4. Tap History > Clear browsing data.
  5. Make sure there’s a check mark next to "Cookies, Site Data," and "Cached Images and Files."

Google Chrome Mozilla Firefox

  1. Open Firefox on your computer.
  2. In the upper right-hand corner of the browser, click the “menu bars,” which look like three parallel lines, and click the “Options”.
  3. Select the Privacy & Security panel (the padlock on the left side) and scroll down to the Cookies and Site Data section.
  4. Click the Clear Data… button. The Clear Data dialog will appear.
  5. Cookies and Site Data (to remove login status and site preferences) and Cached Web Content (to remove stored images, scripts and other cached content) should both be check marked.
  6. Click clear then click “Clear now” to confirm.
     
  7. Visit https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/clear-cookies-and-site-data-firefox for detailed instructions. From the Mozilla support website, choose your operating system + version to view instructions.

Google Chrome Safari (Apple)

Computer | iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

  1. Computer
  2. Open Safari.
  3. In the menu bar (top left of your screen) click History
  4. At the bottom of the menu, choose Clear History…
  5. Use the drop-down menu to pick what timeframe you want to clear history and cookies from Safari
  6. One last time, click Clear History..
    Along with clearing your Safari history, this also clears your cookies and cache

  1. iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
  2. Open Safari.
  3. Go to Settings > Safari, and tap Clear History and Website Data. Clearing your history, cookies, and browsing data from Safari won't change your AutoFill information.
    To clear your cookies and keep your history, go to Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data, then tap Remove All Website Data.

Google Chrome Opera

  1. Open Opera.
  2. Go to the Menu (the red Opera logo in the top left corner) > History > Clear Browsing Data or press Ctrl + Shift + Del.
  3. Under Time Range, select All Time.
  4. Make sure the check boxes next to "Cookies and other site data" and "Cached images and flies" are checked.
  5. Click the "Clear data" button.

Other Troubleshooting

Set your browser to accept cookies.

  • Internet Explorer: Click on TOOLS > INTERNET OPTIONS> SECURITY, Select the INTERNET icon and then CUSTOM LEVEL. Under COOKIES, select ENABLE.
  • Safari 3.2.? Click on EDIT >PREFERENCES>, Select the SECURITY icon, Under ACCEPT COOKIES, select ONLY FROM SITES YOU NAVIGATE TO

Do you have a firewall?

A firewall on your office or home network will interfere with the proxy service. In order to connect to subscription resources, your firewall software needs to give permission for our IP address to transmit through. Our proxy IP address is 68.95.106.35. This address will allow you or your System Administrator to set up the library as a trusted host.

Be sure your javascript is turned on (browser default)

Javascript needs to be enabled for the proxy service to work.

  • Internet Explorer: Click on TOOLS> INTERNET OPTIONS> SECURITY> CUSTOM LEVEL. Under SCRIPTING, select ENABLE for all.
  • Safari 3.2.? Click on EDIT >PREFERENCES>, Select the SECURITY icon, Under WEB CONTENT, select ENABLE JAVA

Your computer cannot read .PDF files.

You need Adobe Acrobat Reader, Version 4.* or later. Download Adobe Acrobat Reader (free) at https://acrobat.adobe.com/us/en/products/pdf-reader.html.

Are you running anti-virus software on your computer?

Some anti-virus programs interfere with the proxy service. Consider disabling your anti-virus program while doing research and enabling it when finished.
